East Carolina Anesthesia Associates is seeking a pediatric anesthesiologist to join our growing team covering Maynard Children’s Hospital, ECU Health Medical Center, and ECU Health SurgiCenter.

This position is ideal for anesthesiologists who want to develop expertise in pediatric anesthesia while maintaining adult anesthesia skills. The role includes a strong mix of complex pediatric cases along with some adult coverage within the large Level 1 ECU Health system. Fellows and graduating residents may be especially interested due to the robust and diverse case mix.

We are offering a generous signing bonus/stipend package of over $100,000 and will consider stipend support for residents entering pediatric fellowship training.

Unlike corporate groups, our physician-owned private practice allows physicians to directly manage operations and make decisions efficiently. Call and time off are shared fairly among team members. A 3-year partnership track is available for physicians interested in equity ownership.

About the Pediatric Practice

Maynard Children’s Hospital at ECU Health Medical Center includes nearly 200 pediatric beds/bassinets and one of the largest Level IV NICUs in North Carolina with 71 beds. The hospital continues expanding pediatric subspecialty services with anticipated growth in surgical volume.

Our team provides anesthesia for more than 4,000 pediatric cases annually, including:

General surgery

Neurosurgery

Craniofacial/plastics

Orthopedics

ENT

Urology

Renal transplant

Off-site anesthesia (GI, radiology, cath lab, pulmonary, heme/onc, radiation therapy)

Regional anesthesia is routinely utilized for postoperative pain management.

For those interested, optional academic opportunities are available through ECU’s Schools of Medicine and Nursing, including teaching, mentoring, lecturing, and research. We also partner with ECU’s SRNA program and multiple anesthesia assistant programs nationwide.

Schedule & Call

We offer a flexible schedule designed to support modern family life and work-life balance.

Call averages approximately 1 weekday/week and 1 weekend/month

Mostly pediatric call coverage

Some in-house overnight shifts with pre- and post-call days off

Majority of backup call is pager backup from home after 7 PM

Call-in rate is under 5%
