East Carolina Anesthesia Associates is seeking a pediatric anesthesiologist due to planned retirements and continued growth in pediatric surgical volume. This employed W2 opportunity offers a strong starting salary of $550,000-$600,000 plus bonuses and a signing bonus/stipend exceeding $100,000.
Cases are performed at Maynard Children’s Hospital and ECU Health Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center serving more than 1.5 million residents across eastern North Carolina.
Maynard Children’s Hospital includes nearly 200 pediatric beds/bassinets and a 71-bed Level IV NICU, one of the largest in the state. As a 29-county referral center, the hospital manages highly complex pediatric surgical cases comparable to major standalone children’s hospitals.
This position offers an exceptional balance of pediatric specialization and adult anesthesia exposure within a large academic-style health system. Physicians will manage their own cases while also mentoring SRNAs, CRNAs, SAAs, and CAAs.
The pediatric service line continues expanding, with anticipated growth in NICU and surgical volume over the coming years.
Position Overview
The pediatric anesthesiologist will provide anesthesia care for infants, children, and adolescents undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures while maintaining adult anesthesia skills through ECU Health’s broad case volume.
Responsibilities include:
Pre-operative evaluations
Development of anesthesia plans
Intraoperative monitoring
Postoperative pain management
Safe recovery oversight
Collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams
Participation in quality improvement initiatives
Case Mix
The physician will primarily perform pediatric anesthesia while also covering select adult and geriatric cases.
The practice provides anesthesia for more than 4,000 pediatric cases annually, including:
General surgery
Neurosurgery
Craniofacial/plastics
Orthopedics
ENT
Urology
Renal transplant
Off-site anesthesia for GI, radiology, cath lab, pulmonary, heme/onc, and radiation therapy
Regional anesthesia is routinely utilized for postoperative pain management.
Schedule & Call
We offer flexible scheduling designed to support work-life balance and modern family needs.
Average clinical hours: 40-45/week
Call averages 1-2 days/week
Mix of pediatric and general call
Some in-house overnight shifts with pre- and post-call days off
Majority of backup call is pager backup from home after 7 PM
Call-in rate under 5%
Post-call days are early out

Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Completed or currently completing anesthesia residency
Pediatric fellowship completed or in progress
BC/BE in Anesthesiology
Eligible for North Carolina medical licensure
